Located at 18km de Grenoble, in the valley of the Romanche River, Vizille is a town with a past rich in historical events, proven by the presence of a castle of the 17th century, which today houses the Musée de la Révolution Française de Vizille. Moreover, is considered  the birthplace of the French Revolution, because here took place on 7 June 1788 the meeting which led to the formation of the Assembly of Vizille.

2028 Vizille Castle - Tapestries Lounge

The former castle was held during the French Wars of Religion by the Catholics. In 1593 it was bought by the leader of the Protestant Army, François de Bonne, duc de Lesdiguières. From 1604 till 1619 the Duke built the castle to highlight his important role in the French court. At the end of the 18th century, the castle was bought by Claude Perier, who set up a textile factory in it. In 1924 the castle became the property of the French State, which ceded it to the Community Council of Isere in 1973.
