Sitting Bull (Lakota: Tatanka Iyotake) was a HunkpapaLakota holy man who led his people during years of resistance to United States government policies, actually a struggle for survival on the North American Great Plains. He is remembered for his lifelong distrust of white men and his stubborn determination to resist their domination, but also as a loving father, a gifted singer, a man always affable and friendly toward others, whose deep religious faith gave him prophetic insight.
